Crown Saver

The Crown Saver physically detects when the rig blocks are near the crown and sends a wireless signal to the panel to apply the brakes. The Crown Saver is made up of two main components; the transducer and the counter weight. The transducer is hard mounted to a fixed point while the counter weight is suspended from the bottom of it. The counter weight’s mass pulls down on an internal strain gauge. When the travelling block lifts the counter weight an alarm is triggered applying the brakes. All mounting hardware is stainless steel to prevent corrosion and is safety cabled. The counter weight is placed around the slow speed line. There is no calibration or special positioning required for the Crown Saver and it will protect the crown during rig-up before most conventional drawworks based crown savers are calibrated.
